Yup, it's that time again! FEEDBACK FRIDAY!!!!

Hello Wizards! It's Friday, and that means it's time for feedback. Hooray!

A few weeks ago, we discussed sun school spells. Today, let's switch the focus to MOON SCHOOL. What moon school spells would you add if you could wave your magic wand? We'd love to hear what you think!

Happy Friday, and a fabulous weekend to everyone out there!

A Mii. Definitely. I love them.

Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner

by Ninelevendo (Talk)
Hi, welcome to The 'Shroom, Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner! This month we'll be boarding the hype barrel train after the recent release of Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS! But What do Mario Kart and Smash have in common? Well, there's more than you might think...
Kart
Statistics
Speed: 0
Acceleration: -0.25
Weight: 0
Handling: +0.5
Off-Road: -0.25
Pros
  1. Good Handling
  2. Had a move designed after it in Smash Bros.
Cons
  1. Slight loss in Acceleration
  2. Decrease in Off-Road
The Koopa Clown Kart (heh) is an unlockable kart body that appears in Mario Kart 7. It's shaped upon the actual Koopa Clown Car, except that it has exhausts, a seat, a driver's wheel, wheels and no back. It's relatively small, and makes Bowser look like he's riding a tricycle when driving in it. The idea of this kart was turned into a move for Bowser Jr. in Smash 3DS, where his Junior Clown Car gains wheels (which, contrary to popular belief, aren't the Wood tires), two back exhausts, and an engine, which looks a lot like an updated version of the kart, which may be hinting something. (*ahem*MarioKart8DLC*ahem*) The Kart itself doesn't add much to anything aside from handling, while giving up some acceleration and off-road while it does so, making an unusual kart, as handling and acceleration are usually paired together. Other than a handling boost, the kart doesn't do too much, so if it's a kart that offers handling with no strings attached that you're looking for, this is probably one of the best karts to go to.
Track
Rainbow Road (3DS)
Tips
  1. Aim for the left side of the white Mushroom. Aiming for the right is likely not going to end well, and let's just say it's a long drop.
  2. Beware the rolling Chomps. It's much faster to brake or avoid doing a trick than to get hit by one of them.
  3. If you can, jump off the end of the last corner. It does save time, and hitting someone can push them straight off the edge.
Rainbow Road on Mario Kart 7 is probably one of the more popular Rainbow Roads due to it's inventive layout. It has corners that bend, and unlike Mario Kart DS or Wii, don't curve enough to send people sliding off the track. The course also features a section that doesn't even take place on the road, instead riding on the moon with more floaty physics or the ring of a planet. (Aren't rings around planets made of moons?) The course also reappeared as a stage in Super Smash Bros. For 3DS as a Port Town Aero Dive type stage, except combining the Shy Guys from Mario Circuit instead of the F-Zero racers, a clever combination that makes the stage a bit safer than said F-Zero course.
Character
No, you can't use that sword to hit other racers.
The Hero of, um, karts? has recently joined in Mario Kart 8, which raises a lot of speculation and questions, but also a lot of exitment and joy. The first non-Mario character to enter Mario Kart series was R.O.B. and then the Mii's, which in an interview were stated to be a hard decision to have them in as they aren't Mario characters. They didn't want a "Smash Kart" game, and yet they seem to have changed their minds. Which wasn't a bad idea at all. Now everyone can enjoy having Link on something other than a Horse, Boat, Train or Bird. So then there is another question, which Link is the one driving here? To answer that, it is the one from Skyward Sword, however his kart has the same colouration as the Hyrule Warriors incarnation. No matter which Link he is though, he is still the main character of The Legend of Zelda and a fun entry to the series.
And that wraps up my this Smash-themed issue. Hope you have a smashing time out there with the Koopalings, the pretty pink piece of gold that EVERYBODY loves and the Baby of the Cosmos. Remember that amiibo has been confirmed to work with Mario Kart 8, so we may be getting some sort of exclusive content that's compatible with Smash, so don't be too skeptical on buying a figure of your favourite character. See you next month, and remember, Spiny Shells are in Smash. Have fun getting blown up!

Hello, readers! I'm your Spotlight manager and Pipe Plaza Director, Yoshi876. Welcome to Retro Feature, a section in which I delve deep into the archives to bring you the best blasts from the past. This time I bring you a section from ace Mario artist, Baby Luigi (Talk), in fact it’s her first ever section!
Baby Luigi joined the MarioWiki on 10th September 2009, originally under the username, BabyLuigiOnFire. Baby Luigi made her ‘Shroom debut during Issue XLII in Palette Swap, which was called Music & Artwork at that point. Her first section was Sketch Related to Mario, a section that had been absent from the paper for one issue. She would go on to write this a further four times, before retiring from The ‘Shroom. She held no further positions within the paper. Issue XLII was an important issue for The ‘Shroom, whilst the paper had been running for several years and several Halloween’s had passed, there had never been sections themed around it. As Music & Artwork was the first section in Issue LXII, this made Baby Luigi the first user to submit a Halloween themed section, something which is still done today.
Baby Luigi is more known for her wiki and forum presence. She is currently in 8th position on the top 10 posters on the forum and has more than 18,000 edits to her name. Her edits were autopatrolled on 1st January 2013, but after the rank was repurposed she lost the rank. She is also a member of the poll committee.
However, you’re not here to learn about the history of Baby Luigi, you’re here to a view a classic section from issues gone by, so without further ado here is Baby Luigi’s first ever section, the Sketch Related to Mario from Issue LXiI.

Boo! Did I scare you? You didn't!? WHAT!? Anyway, this is BabyLuigiOnFire here, with you on Sketch Related to Mario of the month! Due to this month being October, I drew something a little special here to fit the mood of Halloween. My picture is a Halloween Party, Mario-style! Various characters can be seen in this picture, most of them dressed up in costumes.
Hope you enjoy this picture. I spent a lot of effort trying to impress you and I added a colorful touch to this newspaper using my abilities to draw. Stay tuned for next month; I'll draw ANOTHER special picture. Guess what it's gonna be about!
Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you next month for another trip back in time.

Beyond 120 Stars

by Megadardery (Talk)
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Beyond 120 Stars! Megadardery is here with mind-blowing challenges and more for his favorite game.
SM64 Logo ingame.png
Ever thought that Super Mario 64 was too easy, or something? Ever thought that you don't want to play the same missions over, and over? Ever thought that you were too good for this game, but still don't know what else can you do? In this -overly useless- article, you will find -overly useless- challenges that you may enjoy, if you are a hard-core lover of SM64. You may also find some shortcuts that can be useful in speed-runs, or whatever. If you think you are an advanced player, try one of the challenges that is labeled as Very Hard!
...now that this lousy introduction is thrown with Bowser far far away, let's get to the castle along with what you expect to see. :)
Before starting, I would like to apologize because I made a mistake in the previous issue. In the "Featured Shortcut" section, I said that you can get the 100 lives from Yoshi to have extra shots at performing this shortcut. However, talking to Yoshi will give you the new Triple spinning jump, which is impossible to wall-kick from. Sorry 'bout that.
Without further ado, let's-a-go.
Challenges
Mario's logic: standing on thin air.
Easy : Make it to the top of the wooden plank that appear on the top of Whomp's Fortress near the tower. Simple eh? It could be harder than previous easy challenges, but it's worth it. Once you are on the top, why don't you press B Button, you will see magic just by doing that!
What are you looking at, Mario?
Medium : I didn't want to make you stand on yet another thing this issue, but here is it anyway: Stand on the thing that holds the pendulum near the start of Tick Tock Clock. This could be tricky and hard, but it becomes easy once you know how. I don't think I need to tell you, enter the course with the clock frozen. Of course, for added challenge try to do it with the maximum speed of the clock. Personally, I never bothered to get this challenge with the clock moving.
Mario: So, you want me to exit through that?
Hard : Exit Hazy Maze Cave's toxic maze through the entrance. I know what you are thinking of (yes, I can read minds). You are thinking that I'm out of ideas so I put a terrible trick here for the issue. I don't care! For added challenge try not to lose any health while doing this trick (Don't be a cheater and grab the Metal Cap, of course!) Why don't you screw the point of the whole area and enter through the exit and exit through the entrance. Yeah, that would be cool!
Mario:Nintendo placed a cannon and a wing cap there for a reason. Why do I have to do that?
Very Hard : Every SM64 fan must have heard of the CCC challenge, the Capless, Coinless, Cannonless challenge. Your goal is to reach the floating isle in Bob-omb Battlefield while obeying the rules. I know, it's pretty far, but it is pretty possible! If you give up, check the tips below to know a way to do it.

Alright, now go turn on your N64 (or Virtual Console, you get my point..), and go try those challenges. Try hard, don't give up easily..
 [hideSpoilers!: Tips
Easy Beyond120StarsOct7.png Uhh, why I'm putting a tip for an easy challenge? Oh, wait. I made this one harder than the previous ones.. Ok, then. I will tell you the easiest way to do it. Just climb the tower to the very top, and then enter zoomed out Mario Cam (Press R Button then Camera down Button) Now face the plank, and stand on the edge of the tower. Now double jump and guide yourself to the plank. This should be the easiest one if you suck at wall kicks, otherwise stand on the fifth platform of the tower, side flip and wall kick to get onto the plank.
Medium Beyond120StarsOct8.png With the clock frozen, stand on the pendulum itself (watch out, or you might fall). Now jump and wall kick and you should end standing on the box that holds the pendulum. Easy, right? Well, there is a glitchy invisible wall, that if you hit, you will fall to your death. However, there it's unlikely, at least it should be.
Hard Beyond120StarsOct9.png Yay another wall kick is about to happen. In-fact, they are two. Adjust yourself under the entrance and side flip, perform a wall kick and then almost immediately you will hit another wall. If you wall kick that wall too, you will be outside the toxic maze. As always, I think I didn't make any sense in explaining that, so just try it yourself :P
Very Hard Beyond120StarsOct10.png There are exactly two ways, the first one is luck consuming, so we will focus on the second one. Get to the top of the mountain, enter zoomed out Mario Cam. Adjust yourself like in the picture to the left. And start running, once you touch the -imaginary- line in the picture, long jump and hold forward. Your long jump should end on the side of the mountain, now perform another long jump while still holding forward. If you are skilled enough and you did everything correctly, you may end up on the isle. Just maybe.
Featured Shortcut
The first shortcut.
In this section, I will introduce you to a shortcut, difficulty can range.. however it can help you if you are a speed-runner. Also, note that I'm not using Backward Long Jumping, or any major sequence breaking glitches.
The second shortcut.
This time, we are going to Tiny-Huge Island, in the tiny version of the island, there are two shortcuts just near the start which are very helpful and save some time. Just at the start, you can Triple jump and wall kick over to the other side of the wall by the lake. Use this if you want to start collecting the five secrets in the world. However, if you want to start on the part with the grass (the part with the small alcove which produces small cannon balls), you should then use the second shortcut.
Jump to the second land with the flame spitter thingy, while right next to the wall, side flip, you will magically grab onto some ledge and immediately climb up. Anyway, you will end up where you want.
That's all for this issue's Beyond 120 Stars folks, see you next time!

BTW

By the way, in the Shroom, sorry the links are in the title. I'm lazy.

Character Review (Yoshi876 (Talk))

Doctor Mario
Dr. Mario returns, and even he looks slightly angry about this
The latest instalment in the Super Smash Bros. franchise has just recently been released, and who’s come along for the ride? That's right, it's Dr. Mario, yay? Dr. Mario is literally just that, it's Mario all dressed up in doctor gear, with the necessary drugs to boot, obviously some drugs were probably ingested when it was decided he should return. As one would expect Dr. Mario is a completely original character, oh wait no, he's actually just a semi-clone. For those of you not geared up on Smash Bros. terminology, this means he plays like another character, you got three tries to figure out who he's based on, but has enough differences to not be considered a clone. The most notable changes are the Megavitamins which bounce higher and fall faster than Mario's fireballs. The other major difference is the down special, for Dr. Mario it's the Dr. Tornado (who is a very bad doctor by the way), whereas for Mario, it's F.L.U.D.D., hooray?
Ingest six pills daily to convince yourself this was a good idea
It's ironic that the doctor's inclusion makes me sick, he comes in as a semi-clone, instead of a full blown unique character, however, the main thing that annoys me is the fact that he comes for a series which I believe to be overrepresented, yes Mario is Nintendo’s flagship series, but it does not require seven representatives for this game, especially seeing as series like The Legend of Zelda definitely deserved another newcomer. Continuing on from this point, the Doctor was likely included to beef out the roster, so why not use other previous semi-clones like Lucas?
Left out on the waiting room floor
However, it’s not only Smash Bros. where the good doctor makes an appearance. No, he has his own series, the Dr. Mario series, which plays similarly to Tetris, even his games aren't an original concept. Well to be fair, the Dr. Mario games are more of a semi-clone than an actual clone. However, in these games Dr. Mario practically bears no importance, as the game is basically Tetris he is just there to throw the pills in, he is the equivalent to the box that told you what piece you were getting next in Tetris. And this annoys me, Dr. Mario is a character who is a glorified box, and nothing more. I think Taxidermist Mario would've been a better idea.

Fangame Reviews (Pyro (Talk))

Hello, friends, and welcome to a not special edition of Fangame Reviews! Today we have not three, not four, but one fangame to review! After last month's nightmare of a section, let's relax and contemplate about a fangame I actually beat - Abducted Toad! This fangame was made by Friendly Dictator or Superdimentiobros or whatever the hell you want to call him and was just finished recently, after multiple demos. It was obviously inspired by the best Mario fangame to date, Psycho Waluigi, with the game's design surrounding a central gimmick - Toad has the ability to shield himself with an electric aura for a second, killing enemies, activating switches and the like. The game definitely does great things with it, but it has...problems, and I'll be taking out the problems first.
The absolute biggest problem with this game is the absolutely insane difficulty, and for all the wrong reasons. For the purpose of this review, I'll be comparing the game to its inspiration Psycho Waluigi, the infamously frustrating indie game Super Meat Boy, and the silly, well-designed Mega Man fangame Mega Man DONGS. All three of these games get right what this game got wrong.
Okay, this actually does look pretty cool.
The game is trying to be a "hard game" by design, and it succeeds in that matter, but sometimes it's not fair. This game unfortunately uses a lives system, which severely bogs down the game. Dying over and over to a hard part, only for to game over and have to start all over again is crushing. One specific example is World 6's UFO Fleet Area; after an incredibly difficult level, you may be low on health and lives. Trying to figure out the bosses' pattern, you get killed and get a Game Over. "But it's just like Mega Man!", I hear. The first counterclaim against that is the fact that Mega Man has 28 hit points. Toad has four. Mega Man has a relatively normal length invincibility period. Toad has a short one. Mega Man has multiple weapons and the bosses have weaknesses to them you can use to speed up the fight. Toad has one attack. You see where I'm going with this? And the aforementioned three games all have infinite lives and make it less frustrating in a specific way - Super Meat Boy's levels are very short, and so when you die you don't lose much progress and are thrust back into the action very quickly. The other two have very frequent checkpoints. While Abducted Toad has frequent checkpoints, it takes a very long time to get back to the position you were in if you die to the boss of the level. Black Hole Area is the best example here - the boss there has a crapload of health, and before it is a long, tedious level with autoscrolling, very few places to heal, and no checkpoints. You also have to go through a rather long cutscene beforehand.
WHY
Now that I've got that point out of the way, I have a laundry list of levels that are fucking horrible in this game. They are - Crumbling Castle Area, Glitch Data Area, Ghost Galaxy Area, Hot Cold Area, UFO Fleet Area, and Black Hole Area. I'll cover them from least bad to most bad, and I've already covered the problem with Black Hole Area. First off, I only hate Hot Cold Area because Crumbling Castle Area has an absolutely awful area towards the end where you have to destroy the blocks you break with your aura but avoid destroying the crumbling blocks below it in order to not die. While this is fine in theory, look at the provided picture. Look at that low ceiling. Ugh. UFO Fleet Area is bad because it's long, very hard, low in extra lives, and has a section with the UFO vehicle that's autoscrolling. Ghost Galaxy Area is bad because it has many annoying enemies coming at you from every which way and introduces the UFO vehicle. Now why is this UFO vehicle so bad? It controls like a fucking drunk donkey running down a slope at its fastest possible speed, it has a giant hitbox, and it has very weak projectiles. I don't know what compelled Superdimentiobros to make this awful vehicle; maybe it's because it looks hilarious when you're holding Up, Right and Jump.
And the worst level in the game, Glitch Data Area! The glitchy screenshot above is what the level looks like in one section. People may be very surprised at why I hate this level, as it's "inspired" by the amazing, fun level from Psycho Waluigi, Static Void Kingdom. Now my biggest qualm with this idea is that it's very uninspired. If you fixed the tilesets and backgrounds, it would be just another level. There's nothing else special about it besides its bizarre visual gimmick. Static Void Kingdom's gimmick was that it flashed you to a new section of the level at seemingly random and had some bizarre level design. Nothing in Abducted Toad's version is "bizarre" outside of the tilesets. Sure, there are those extremely annoying enemies that randomly change into other ones, but they're used outside of this level, specifically in Starshine Islands Area. It's a really bad level overall if you put it into perspective with the other levels in the game, especially Worlds 2 and 4.
Those are pretty much the bad parts about this game...now on to the good parts! The hands-down best part about this game are the controls - yes, I'm serious. Toad moves at a fast pace making for quick and easy levels if you know what you're doing (and if you don't, then have fun in UFO Fleet Area! Hahaha, fuck you). There's no weird friction or anything, you basically move like a faster Mega Man. The next best part is the music. Oh god, the music. Superdimentiodictatorfriendwhatever actually got someone to compose some tracks for this game and they sound wonderful. The regular overworld theme is so calming and fits so much, and there's other very nice ambient tracks such as the one in Illusion Manor Area. I have to say the only bad track in this game is the music for the fight with the Singularity Core, which is a really shitty MIDI of Mega Man 4's final boss music.
The game also has some creativity, such as these Monty Mole fish, and this strange Up N' Down edit that has feet and jumps up and down...it's hard to explain. The game also has 56 CDs to collect, and the CDs contain various info on the enemies and bosses of the game. It adds some replayability, and I have yet to find them all. Other options include a special world and "Daredevil Mode", which gives you infinite lives but you die in one hit. When you beat a level in daredevil mode, you get a gold crown on the map screen's dot for that level.
Overall, I would highly recommend this game. Despite its extreme difficulty, it's still quite a fun play, and I'd give it a 10/10.
Oh, and guess what's happening early next month? The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth comes out! Oh, and the Nintendo Community Fangame Convention! It's a yearly online event where people come and showcase their fangames of Nintendo franchises and Mega Man, and more recently, some indie games. It takes place from November 3rd to November 7th, and for next month's issue I'll be tackling all of the fangames there, including Fire Emblem fangames, which are of a series I have never played. All but two...hmm...I wonder what two I could be talking about? Maybe a one about some elemental orbs that I've helped out with and another one about a Blooper made by yours truly...ARE YOU GETTING MY SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE DAMMIT

What’s on The Box? (Yoshi876 (Talk))

Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS South Africa boxart.png
Hello 'Shroom readers, as many of you are aware the latest installment in the Super Smash Bros. series has just been released, so to celebrate that I have chosen the South African boxart for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. The characters featured on the boxart are Link, Mario, Pit, Pikachu, Villager, Samus, Marth, Rosalina and Luma, Little Mac, Yoshi and Kirby. Not much to note about these other than the fact that most are representing some of Nintendo's biggest and most popular franchises. A little note with the characters is that Pikachu, Villager, Yoshi and Kirby are all smiling, whereas the other characters (minus Rosalina and Samus) all have serious expressions on their faces. Arguably this could be because the smiling ones are from series that are more aimed at children, as the characters with serious faces usually don't get ratings that mean everyone can play them, but Mario stands out from this as his games generally are. Only spin-offs receive higher ratings, so maybe he's just serious as he's Nintendo's flagship character so he has to be serious for the occasion. As mentioned previously Rosalina and Samus don’t fit into the serious / smiling category, although due to the helmet it's impossible to say what Samus is feeling. However, it is obvious with Rosalina, she has a slightly shocked or scared face showing that she may be nervous as this is her first Super Smash Bros. appearance. The background of the boxart is red, maybe showing the blood that will be split as these characters duke it out.

Featured Sprite (FunkyK38 (Talk))

Well, everyone, it’s October, and you all know what that means! The cold! Being somewhat serious now, we all really know what October is all about: Halloween. So, for you all this month, I have this sprite of a Snifaro from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time: File:Snifaro.png! Look at this one, all dressed up for what seems like no reason at all. Do they do Halloween in the Mushroom Kingdom? Do Mario and Luigi go trick-or-treating with the babies? Does Bowser give away candy? Well, I can bet that Bowser Jr. would be the one going around TP-ing people’s houses, seems like something he’d do for sure.

Boo! Welcome to this month’s edition of Pipe Plaza. Starting off with some bad news, Driftmaster130 (Talk) had to prioritize his schoolwork and so his section is absent from this month’s edition. Hopefully that doesn’t damper the Halloween spirit too much and you can go off and enjoy the rest of this month’s edition.
If you wish to join Pipe Plaza, look over here, pick a section you think you could do, so long as someone doesn’t already write for it, and PM me here.

We have quite a bit of content that we aim to provide each month: puzzles, games, activities and more! We are always looking for somebody who is willing to help us have this "fun stuff" each month.

Fun Stuff Contest

Last month, we ran a contest in the Fun Stuff and gave people a chance to win a prize. This prize would have been something along the lines of either a $50 gift card for Steam or Nintendo Points, or two $25 gift cards for both services. The only requirements were that the participant have a forum account; solve last month's Crossword, Word Search and Non-Mario Crossword sections; and be the first person to submit the correct answers. Unfortunately, nobody participated, so we have no results to share nor any prizes to give out. We might organize another similar contest during the Holiday Issue, so be sure to check back then.
The answers to last month's contest sections are:

Melody Pianissima, "the spectral beauty of the ivory keys," is quite a character! Melody makes her only appearance in 2001's Luigi's Mansion and is the sixth portrait ghost that Luigi encounters on his quest to save his brother. After the green-clad hero summons her by making several instruments play a Mario theme song, she quizzes him on several other historic Mario tunes. Should Luigi answer incorrectly, she shows an angry side– accusing him of having "insulted" her "beautiful piece" and forcing him to reenter in order to retry her challenge. Should he answer to Melody's satisfaction, she battles him by attacking him with flying music sheets while playing the piano. Sucking up the music sheets with the Poltergust 3000 causes her to stop playing, which exposes her heart and gives Luigi an opening to recapture her. After her defeat, the hero receives the key to the Dining Room where Mr. Luggs is faced next.

Here is a crossword! This one has mostly to do with games released in Octobers over the years, spooky and haunted things, and pumpkins. There are no spaces, numbers or special characters— only the standard letters of the alphabet are used.
